BACOLOD City – A tricycle driver who allegedly ran over an elderly man in Brgy. Sum-ag here voluntarily surrendered to the police two days after the accident.
Police Captain Jun Ray Batadlan, head of Police Station 9, said Raffymin Nobleza, 24, of Sum-ag appeared at the police station at 4 p.m. of June 25.
Nobleza allegedly ran over Eduardo Enriquez, 62, who was initially hit by a speeding motorcycle driven by an unidentified man on Sunday night.
A Ceres Liner bus driven by Regie Lejarso, 38, of Binalbagan town was the last vehicle to run over Enriquez.
Batadlan said they let Nobleza go as the 18-hour reglementary detention period has lapsed. The victim’s family also refused to press charges against him following an amicable settlement.
The bus driver was also released from detention after the Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) reached out to the victim’s family and extended assistance to them.
Batadlan said they will continue to look for the motorcycle driver since the victim’s family is willing to file charges against him for causing the accident.
Batadlan said the motorcycle driver, based on the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage, was allegedly seen among the bystanders when he returned to the accident scene.
However, he did not approach the police and instead fled from the scene.
