Tricycle driver fatally stabbed in Lambunao dispute

A tricycle driver died after being repeatedly stabbed on the morning of Sept. 23 in Lambunao, Iloilo.

The victim, known by the alias Jesthro, 40, of Barangay Walang, Lambunao, suffered several abrasions and two fatal stab wounds to the chest.

Responders from the Lambunao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed him to Dr. Ricardo Ladrido Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police identified the suspect as another tricycle driver, also 40, known by the alias Enrico, of Sitio 40, Barangay Caguisanan, Lambunao.

According to initial reports, Enrico was driving his tricycle around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday when the victim confronted him for allegedly operating with an expired franchise.

Investigators said the issue had been a recurring point of contention, with Jesthro previously warning Enrico about driving without a valid permit.

Capt. Jose Winston Biadog, Lambunao police chief, said the argument escalated into a physical altercation.

During the fistfight, Enrico allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident.

However, he surrendered to authorities around 10 p.m. the same day.
