Iloilo City will share successful best practices on resiliency before a virtual global gathering to discuss Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas will be a panelist at the Asia-Pacific Partnership for DRR (APP-DRR) Forum on Dec. 1-2.
The United Nations Office for DRR (UNDRR) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific hosts the event.
“We will appreciate if you could bring the local action and resilience perspective into the discussion from your experiences as a Mayor. We look forward to your participation and a productive meeting,” Animesh Kumar, Officer-in-Charge, UNDRR Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, wrote Treñas.
“To set the stage for consultation, a panel will be organized to consider lessons and good practices that DRR community can draw from CoronaVirus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic,” Kumar added.
It will also suggest key regional priorities in Asia-Pacific for resilience building.
APP-DRR Forum will identify key areas of priority action that will form inputs to the next Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on DRR (APMCDRR). Collectively, the APP-DRR and APMCDRR form the regional platforms for disaster risk reduction in the Asia-Pacific region.
APP-DRR is a multi-stakeholder forum for DRR-focused and serves to monitor and support implementation of Sendai Framework and associated Asia Regional Plan and sub- regional plans.
It includes governments, regional inter-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, UN and international organizations and donors. (Iloilo City PIO)
