Traffic aides, auxiliaries should work – mayor

Iloilo City’s traffic aides and police auxiliaries should be in the middle of streets and public places to secure the public and ensure peace and order.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas took to task the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) and Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) on the proper deployment of traffic and auxiliary personnel, respectively.

The City Hall employs 293 traffic aides and 100 police auxiliaries.

The mayor said these personnel should be in the middle of the action instead of idly standing on the sidewalks.

“I don’t want to see any traffic aide at the side of the street. The reason why you are there is to command at the center. If ever I see one, I will suspend him for a month, and the next time, I will dismiss him,” Treñas said.

“We have many police auxiliaries. I want to deploy them in strategic areas to assure public safety,” he added.

The mayor wants the force multipliers to guard Esplanade, parks and plazas because many people go to these places. (PIO)
