Police Major Gary Alan Resuma, town police chief, said that based on the information they gathered, six unidentified persons came out of the sugarcane field carrying a container of gasoline.
The perpetrators then poured gasoline on the tractor and set it on fire.
No workers were in the area during the incident, according to Resuma.
The tractor, which was destroyed, was owned by two landowners from here.
Police could not yet tell if the incident might be linked to insurgency, although the area was considered rebel-infested.
