Town distributes vegetables farmers to residents affected by Covid-19 crisis

Apart from relief goods, the municipality of Sara in Iloilo province distributed vegetables harvested by the local farmers to the residents affected by the enhanced community quarantine due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

According to Sara Mayor Jon Aying, the initiative will help in boosting the immune system of the residents.

“Ginkuha namon sa mga baryo nga gaproduce kami vegetables. Local man gihapon.Una kinahanglan ta magincrease sang endurance and resistance. Basta nami resistensya mo ang Covid-19, mapatay man lang na sa,” he said.

Each household will receive two kilograms of rice, four canned goods, four noodles, and a variety of vegetables courtesy of the local government.

The project will also benefit local farmers in Sara by providing them with extra income amid the Covid-19 crisis.

“Affected man ang mga farmer so para magka-income man sila bisan may Covid-19 sige sige amon economic activities,” the mayor added.

The local government targets to distribute the relief goods and vegetables to the 15,278 households in Sara.

So far, Aying said they have distributed to around 3,000 households who were also the poorest of the poor in the town of Sara.

“We were able to distribute to 3,000 households of the 15,278. Ang mga 3,000 poorest of the poor. We will roll out again another distribution maskin madoblehan sila okay lang kay teh poorest of the poor man sila,” he added.

The municipal officials were in charge of repacking the food packs while the barangay officiañs  distribute the food assistance per household or through a community gym where social distancing are strictly observed.

The town remains free from Covid-19 and has also not recorded a person under investigation (PUI).

PUIs are individuals with travel history to places with local transmission and had exposure to a positive case and manifested signs and symptoms of Covid-19.
