Top cop proposes drone for insurgency, police operations

BACOLOD City – Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said he will propose to the provincial government to procure a drone to boost the anti-insurgency and police operations of Nocppo.

Baleros said using of the said equipment can save the lives of policemen when they respond to incidents especially in crowded areas and forested areas.

According to Merriam-Webster, a drone is an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers which is able to see the aerial view of an area.

Baleros said the drone can help them during search and seizure operations particularly in slum areas to scout the place before going against their targets.

It will also aid them to determine their priority areas to address the insurgency problem in the province, he added.

Earlier, policemen were advised to verify reports first before responding to any call for assistance especially in far-flung areas to prevent danger on their lives.

There were incidents in the past of policemen being killed in an ambush after responding to incidents.

He said he will create a team of personnel to undergo drone pilot surveillance training.

“This is to also prevent the ambush attempt on our policemen. Let us invest in order to ensure the safety of the people,” he said.
