Tokyo Olympics qualifier EJ Obiena went clutch in the 2020 Herculis Diamond League Meet held at State Louis II, Fontvielle, Monaco to clinch the third place.
Going up against fellow Tokyo-bound pole vaulters all around the world, Obiena successfully surpassed the 5.50-meter mark and went high as 5.70.
A part of the many side tournaments Obiena will take part in as preparatory contest for the 2021 Olympics, the Filpino pride is already in his training stage.
During the competition, Ben Broeders of Belgium edged Obiena after clearing his first attempt despite having the same height of 5.70 as Obiena.
Armand Duplantis of Sweden then put the icing on the cake after soaring as high as 5.80 to bag the Herculis championship.
Obiena is currently finding other competitions after his impressive stint in the 13th Triveneto International Meeting in Trieste, Italy, nabbing the silver medal.
