BACOLOD CITY — A 5-year-old girl was killed after she was sideswiped by a dump truck loaded with sand in Hacienda Manaloto, Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday.
Police Maj. Rhazl Jim Jocson, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said the victim had just alighted from a tricycle and suddenly crossed the road.
Jocson said the girl’s sibling had been told by their parents to fetch her from school but failed to notice that she crossed the road on her own.
The victim died on the spot, according to Jocson.
The dump truck driver was on his way to deliver sand to a client when the incident occurred.
He fled the scene out of fear but later surrendered to police, accompanied by his employer.
Jocson said the truck driver has been released from police custody following the lapse of his reglementary detention.
Police are awaiting the victim’s family’s decision on whether to file charges.
