BACOLOD City – Hundreds of passengers were stranded Monday after the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental suspended sea travel due to Typhoon Tisoy.
Ensign Darell John Hernaez, PCG-Southern Visayas District operations chief, said 150 to 250 passengers were stranded in Bacolod City’s Bredco port.
Hernaez said most of the passengers were bound for Iloilo City.
In San Carlos City, 120 passengers bound for Toledo City, Cebu are also stuck at the port. The Barcelona port in Escalante City, meanwhile, recorded around 50 passengers and 155 rolling cargoes stranded.
Bacolod City’s Banago port and Pulupandan port, meanwhile, have not recorded any stranded passengers.
Hernaez said the PCG-Negros Occidental was on alert since last week after the country’s weather bureau started tracking the storm.
PCG in Negros Occidental also ordered its personnel to prepare its quick response teams.
Earlier on Sunday, the PCG immediately suspended all sea trips in the northern part of Negros Occidental after the areas were placed under Storm Signal No.1.
