‘Tino’ leaves 4 dead, displaces 263K families in W. Visayas

While Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) did not cause massive destruction in Western Visayas, it claimed four lives and displaced 263,584 families.
According to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), the provinces of Antique and Iloilo recorded one fatality each, while Capiz logged two deaths, all attributed to the typhoon.
These figures, however, are still subject to validation.
Reports said the two fatalities in Capiz died due to electrocution and drowning.
One victim, identified only as John from Barangay San Ramon, Pilar, was reportedly electrocuted while fixing his room.
In another incident, a tricycle driver was killed after a tree fell on him in Barangay Sublangon, Pontevedra.
In Antique, a 50-year-old man drowned while attempting to cross a river in Barangay Salvacion, Anini-y, around 7:30 a.m. on November 4.
In Iloilo, a 55-year-old woman drowned after strong winds blew her riverside hut into the water at Barangay Paloc So-ol, Dumangas, around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Identified only as Marissa, the victim was reportedly carried away by the current; her brother attempted to rescue her, and she was brought to a hospital but died several hours later.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 6 (DSWD-6) reported that 2,480 barangays in 101 municipalities and cities were affected by Typhoon Tino.
As of 5 p.m. on November 6, data from the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) showed that Iloilo recorded the most affected families, followed by Capiz.
To date, the agency has released PHP 38.05 million worth of assistance to 860,527 individuals affected by the typhoon.
There are 20,819 families staying in 977 open evacuation centers, while 17,252 families are taking temporary shelter with relatives or friends.
Local government units have released nearly PHP 6 million in additional aid, consisting mainly of family food packs.
The DROMIC report also stated that the typhoon totally destroyed 177 houses and partially damaged 8,159 others.
DSWD said it has available resources amounting to PHP 48.72 million, including PHP 2.79 million in standby funds and PHP 45.93 million worth of food and non-food items.
