One of the most decorated setters the Philippine women’s volleyball has ever seen decided to unretire and return to the sport she once dominated.
At the age of 44, Tina Salak will make a memorable comeback and will suit up for the Cherry Tigo squad that will compete in the upcoming 2021 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
Head coach Aaron Velez was the one who confirmed the surprising news and stated that Salak’s return will become a huge boost to a young Tigo team.
Initially retired from volleyball five years ago, Salak will now face against her former mentees and former co-coaching staff where she spent her post-player career on the sidelines.
Also, one of the main reasons why Tigo is bringing in Salak is to guide emerging stars Jasmine Nabor and Gyzelle Sy who are expected to lead the team to new heights this year.
Salak was the former 2014 PSL All-Filipino Most Valuable Player and was a staple champion during the Shakeys V-League.
During her prime, Salak steered the Philippine Army to a championship title and made the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws one of the most formidable volleyball squads.
Before her pro career return was announced, Salak was appointed as a part of the committee under the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.
