Three women have died after being struck by car whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.
The incident happened 7 a.m. of June 14 at Barangay Pungtod, Cabatuan, Iloilo
Police only identified the victims as alias Berta, 72 and alias Fely, 58, both residents of Cabatuan town; and alias Heidi, 59, of Lambunao town.
Captain Aileen Lacrite, Cabatuan police chief, said Berta and Fely were walking by the roadside while Heide was picking plastic bottle when they were hit by a car.
The vehicle was driven by 20-year-old alias Gero, a resident of Maasin town.
The driver came from Pavia and was on his way home when the incident happened.
He allegedly dozed off while behind wheels prompting the vehicle to veer into the roadside.
Gero attempted to maneuver the vehicle back in the road but he already hit the three women.
The victims were brought to the nearby Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital but they were all declared dead on arrival.
Gero was immediately arrested and placed behind bars
A case for Reckless Imprudence Resulting to Multiple Homicide was filed on the same day the incident happened.
