BACOLOD City – Three persons, including two senior citizens, were killed in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on March 27 and 29, 2022.
The recent accident was reported in Hinigaran town yesterday, wherein a motorcycle rider was allegedly hit by a Ceres Bus Liner at Barangay Gargato.
According to Captain Ryan Villasario, town police chief, Cornelio Tiamsing, 78, of the said village, was sideswiped by the bus when he allegedly overlapped on the latter’s lane.
“Nagchange siya lane pero na alang-alang siya (Tiamsing),” Villasario said.
Villasario said Tiamsing was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, adding that he was not wearing a helmet.
Villasario said the bus management is open for a settlement, but the victim’s family initially decided to pursue a criminal case against the bus driver.
In San Carlos City, a pedicab driver died while his female passenger was wounded after they were allegedly hit by a pick-up truck in Barangay Guadalupe last Sunday.
Police identified the fatality as Richard Liandres, 34, of Barangay Rizal.
Wounded was Leonidas Albano, 48, of Barangay Rizal.
Lieutenant Ruby Aurita, deputy police chief of San Carlos City Police Station, said the 62-year-old pickup truck driver was allegedly speeding on his way home from Negros Oriental, when he overtook a motorcycle he was tailing and collided with a pedicab.
“Wala niya natalupangdan na pag overtake niya, may pedicab gali sa pihak lane, wala na siya nakabalik pa,” Aurita said.
Aurita said the pick-up truck driver and Liandres’s family already had a settlement. In fact, the pick-up truck driver was already released from jail after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
In Kabankalan City, Marieta Mendoza, 82, of Barangay Talubangi died, while nine others suffered injuries after the tricycle they were riding overshot to the opposite lane and hit a streetlight post at Barangay Oringao last Sunday.
The relatives were on their way to the city proper when the accident occurred, according to the police.
