BACOLOD City – Three persons were killed after a Ford Mustang slammed into a 10-wheeler truck loaded with sugarcane along Circumferential road in Barangay Villamonte here early Tuesday.
Police identified the fatalities as businessman Stanley Flores and his passengers Welton Porcel and nephew Mark John Porcel, all residents of the said village.
Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 4, said the Mustang driven by Flores was tailing the truck when it hit the rear part of the latter vehicle.
Gever said truck driver Micheal Mejica, 42, of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, thought his tire exploded but when he checked, he discovered that the sports car was already stuck underneath the truck.
The three victims died on the spot due to serious injuries. The accident happened around 1 am.
Gever said Mejica is now under police custody. He will be released if no charges will be filed against him within the reglementary detention period.
