BACOLOD City – Three persons were stabbed dead, while eight others were wounded in separate incidents in Negros Occidental during New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2023.
The fatalities were reported in Cadiz City and the towns of Hinoba-an and Murcia.
In Murcia town, a 25-year-old man was found lifeless with six stab wounds in the back in Barangay Blumentritt. He also had injuries in his head and face, and a stab wound in his right arm.
Later that night, a 46-year-old farmer was stabbed dead by a drunken man in Barangay Damutan, Hinoba-an town, while a 42-year-old laborer also died from stabbing in Barangay Jerusalem, Cadiz City, due to a misunderstanding over a drinking session.
Other stabbing incidents were reported in San Carlos City, and the towns of San Enrique, Calatrava, Pulupandan, La Castellana, and Don Salvador Benedicto.
Motorcycle collision
A motorcycle rider died while two others were wounded in a motorcycle collision in Barangay Tangub here on New Year’s Eve, December 31.
Police Captain Melvin Mercado, head of Police Station 8, withheld the names of the fatality and the two wounded victims, including a senior citizen, who were not wearing helmets.
One of the motorcycles crossed the road, causing a collision, according to Mercado.
Mercado said that based on the injuries suffered by the victims, it’s possible that both motorcycles were allegedly speeding.
Mercado said the two victims are still confined at the hospital. He said that both parties have yet to meet for a possible settlement.
