Three dead, seven injured in road mishaps

BACOLOD City – Three persons were killed, while seven others were wounded in separate road accidents in Bago City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.

The first accident happened around 6:20 p.m., killing a motorcycle rider and injuring six others at Purok Rosas, Barangay Calumangan.

The fatality was identified as Phil Mark Francisco of Muntinlupa.

Police Staff Sergeant Ronald Javier, traffic investigator of Bago City Police Station, said that a pick-up truck transporting a family executed a U-turn. But an alleged speeding motorcycle driven by Francisco collided with the truck.

Francisco swerved and hit another motorcycle boarded by two persons in the opposite lane.

Javier said that Francisco, who was not wearing a helmet, was declared dead on arrival, while the two other motorcycle riders were wounded.

The rescue vehicle of the city was on its way to respond to the said accident when it also crashed into the rear part of a truck loaded with sugarcane – which was stuck in traffic because of the first accident.

Javier said that four rescuers, including the driver of the rescue vehicle, were wounded in the accident.

The pick-up truck driver and the truck driver were released from police custody following a settlement.

Later that night, another accident occurred at Purok Proper South, Barangay Taloc around 10:40 p.m.

The fatalities were identified as Jessie Delgado Jr. of Pontevedra town, and one of his passengers, Jayson Pagcaliwagan of Batangas City.

Wounded was Geraldine Gamus of Batangas. She was transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Javier said that Delgado allegedly lost control of his driven sedan upon approaching the curve road.

The car then swerved hitting a concrete barrier, fell into a canal, and turned turtle, he added.

Javier said the three victims were seafarers and were believed to be speeding on their way to work.
