Three caught for illegal fishing in Roxas City

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Three individuals were arrested Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21, for illegal fishing activities in the waters of Roxas City in front of Parola in Barangay Culasi here.
The police identified the suspects as alias “Nonoy,” 47, boat captain, and crew members alias “Moting,” 63, and alias “Tonyo,” 53, all residents of Barangay Libas, Roxas City.
Based on reports from the Roxas City PNP, the suspects were caught in the act by the Task Force Bantay Dagat of Roxas City while using a trawl.
Recovered from the suspects were one fishing boat worth PHP 250,000, a Mitsubishi Fuso 14 engine worth PHP 80,000, fishing gear and nets worth PHP 80,000, and approximately 80 kilos of assorted fish worth PHP 12,000.
Charges for violating City Ordinance No. 016-2023, or Fishing in City Waters Using Active Gear, will be filed against them. The suspects and confiscated items are presently under the custody of the Roxas City Fishery/Agriculture Office for proper disposition.
