ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Three meat butchers were arrested Tuesday afternoon, April 7, in Barangay Rizal, Pontevedra, Capiz, for alleged illegal gambling.
Authorities identified the suspects as alias “Dody,” 28, of Barangay Tabuc, Maayon, Capiz; alias “Moy,” 29, of Barangay Tabuc, Pontevedra; and alias “Ben,” 21, a resident of Barangay Bailan, Pontevedra, Capiz.
A report from the Pontevedra police said officers were conducting visibility patrols and monitoring peace and order in the town’s Pabahay, or housing village, when they allegedly caught the suspects playing tong-its beside the road.
Police immediately approached and arrested the suspects.
Recovered from the suspects were playing cards, an improvised wooden table, three plastic monobloc chairs and PHP 154 in cash in various denominations.
The suspects were placed under the custody of the Pontevedra police, while charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602, or the Anti-Gambling Law, are being prepared against them.
