BACOLOD City – Three out of 61 barangays here were tagged as dengue hotspots by the City Health Office as cases posted a 232.2 percent increase.
CHO head, Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli told reporters in a press conference with Mayor Alfredo Benitez on Thursday that dengue cases as of Aug 10, 2022 totaled 565 compared to 170 last year.
The three barangays with the highest cases are Mansilingan (64), Taculing (44) and Estefania (44). The villages also posted attack rates of 13 percent, 11, and 10, respectively.
CHO data furnished to reporters indicated that nine persons died from dengue while the age range of those affected were from 1 month to 86 years old. The age group with the most number of cases are in the 1 to 10-year-old group.
Gensoli said the CHO has engaged in massive information drive to increase awareness as well as remind residents to clean their surroundings as a pre-emptive measure against dengue.
She added that they are also conducting fogging operation in public schools in preparation for the school opening.
Mayor Benitez appealed to the media to help in increasing awareness about dengue through their respective outfits.
