Three Arrested at Checkpoints for Illegal Drugs

BACOLOD CITY – Three individuals were apprehended at Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental on Tuesday night for alleged possession of illegal drugs and other violations.

The Bacolod City Mobile Force Company (BCMFC) arrested two suspects, alias “Aljon,” 33, and alias “Romnick,” 26, both residents of Murcia town, during a checkpoint in Barangay Mansilingan at around 10 p.m.

Police flagged down the suspects, who were riding a motorcycle. During the inspection, Aljon was reportedly seen dropping a sachet of suspected shabu. Authorities confiscated approximately 0.5 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of PHP3,400, a 10-inch knife, four lighters, and a whistle bomb firecracker.

Police stated that Aljon will face charges for illegal possession of dangerous drugs, while Romnick may be charged for illegal possession of a deadly weapon. Both suspects are detained at Police Station 7.

This operation, according to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), highlights the effectiveness of heightened security measures during the election period.

In a separate incident in Don Salvador Benedicto town, a 24-year-old resident of Barangay Bunga was arrested at a checkpoint in the village around 9 p.m.

The man was initially stopped for not wearing a helmet. However, police said a sachet of suspected shabu fell from his pocket while they were checking his driver’s license. A subsequent frisking revealed a pouch containing another sachet of suspected shabu.

The suspects remain in custody as authorities prepare to file the appropriate charges.
