BACOLOD City – More than 2,000 individuals were evacuated here due to flooding caused by Super Typhoon “Egay” yesterday.
Based on the record of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), 613 families composed of 2,201 persons are in various evacuation centers as of 4 p.m., July 25.
According to Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, CDRRMO head, severely affected by flood were villages near bridges such as Singcang-Airport and Pahanocoy.
Also affected were Barangays Taculing, Mansilingan, Tangub, Cabug, Sum-ag, 27, 36, 31, 41, 35, 39, Alijis, Punta Taytay, and 40.
Rescuers, along with other law enforcement agencies, were deployed to conduct rescue operations in the affected areas.
Neck-level flooding was reported in Barangay Sum-ag, while waist-level and knee-level waters were reported in Barangays Singcang-Airport and Pahanocoy.
Pornan said they are closely monitoring the situation in the city, as the typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday morning.
Barangay officials are enjoined to conduct pre-emptive evacuations in their respective areas.
According to the CDRRMO, accumulated rainfall here from 8 p.m. of July 24 to 2 p.m. of July 25 was 28.7 mm, equivalent to the amount of rainfall in three to five days.
Trips from Bacolod to Iloilo and vice-versa were suspended yesterday due to big waves and rough seas, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Meanwhile, Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez has ordered the suspension of work in government offices, and classes at all levels were suspended here yesterday due to heavy rains.
The provincial government of Negros Occidental, and the local government of Talisay, Silay, and E.B. Magalona also suspended work in government offices yesterday.
