BACOLOD City – Ten former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) received P100,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental yesterday.
Mayor Benjie Miranda led the turnover of the financial assistance at the Alpha Company of the 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) headquarters in Barangay Camingawan.
Each former NPA rebel received P10,000 from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
CSWDO head Cyril Ramos said the cash aid is just initial assistance since they are entitled to more benefits.
Miranda, in his message, said the government initiatives will also encourage other rebels to turn themselves into the authorities.
