A 16-year-old lad is now in police custody after he allegedly killed his father late evening of April 23, 2022 in Calinog, Iloilo.
The suspect, Joey (not his real) of Barangay Badlan Pequeño, Calinog, was arrested around 7:45 a.m. Sunday while walking at the village.
Major Dadje Delima, Calinog police chief, said the teenager did not resist when police collared him. He also admitted to killing his father, Leo Libuna, 56, at their house.
According to reports, the suspect arrived home around 11 p.m. The drunken teener then heard a mouthful from his father.
At the height of their heated argument, the victim kicked his son.
Joey quickly planned his counterassault by grabbing a bolo and attacked his father.
Leo suffered injuries on his head and was believed to have died at the scene. He was no longer taken to the hospital.
Joey, on the other hand, fled after the incident.
Delima said only Joey’s 9-year-old sister witnessed the incident.
His 18-year-old sister and 7-year-old brother were asleep when the incident happened.
The sibling’s mother was working in Iloilo City and the kids were in their father’s care.
Their mother claimed that her husband had been used to scolding the boy, who might have harbored ill feelings against the victim.
Joey appeared remorseful after he was arrested, Delima said.
It remains unclear if the family would pursue charges against Joey.
