BACOLOD CITY — A 16-year-old Grade 11 student surrendered to authorities hours after he allegedly punched and injured a policeman with a brass knuckle outside a public high school in Barangay Granada here on Friday.
Police Capt. Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 5, said the student, accompanied by his mother, went to the police station and apologized to the injured police officer.
Ofalia said the student acknowledged his mistake, but the 40-year-old policeman intends to pursue a direct assault complaint against him.
Ofalia said the student was placed under the custody of the Social Development Center, which caters to children in conflict with the law.
The incident happened during the lunch break when police officers passing through the area saw a group of students skateboarding as other students and parents were crossing the road.
The victim, a police master sergeant, approached the group and told them to stop skateboarding because they posed a safety risk and were obstructing traffic.
While the officer was speaking with another student, one member of the group allegedly attacked him with a brass knuckle, causing an injury below his left eye.
