BACOLOD CITY – A 19-year-old man, reportedly suffering from a mental illness, allegedly stabbed his grandmother to death at their home in Barangay Pahanocoy on Sunday.
The names of the suspect and the 66-year-old victim were withheld.
Police Capt. Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 8, said the victim and the suspect’s mother were arguing when the suspect may have gotten irritated, triggering him to attack his grandmother with a kitchen knife.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was declared dead at a hospital.
Cayao said the suspect was arrested at home and turned over to police by barangay watchmen. Authorities also recovered the murder weapon.
He added that the suspect had been staying at his grandmother’s house since October last year after moving from Murcia, Negros Occidental, where his father resides.
The suspect will be charged with parricide.
While detained at the custodial facility, the suspect allegedly harassed other detainees after hearing them talk.
Given the suspect’s reported medical condition, Cayao speculated that he might have been annoyed by the noise.
However, according to his family, this was the first time he had acted violently.
