BACOLOD CITY – An 18-year-old boy died after he was allegedly stabbed following a misunderstanding between two teenage groups in Barangay Tangub here early Saturday, Nov. 1.
Police Capt. Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 8, said the victim and the suspect’s group were having a drinking session when an argument broke out around 2 a.m., leading to a commotion.
Cayao said the 18-year-old suspect, a Grade 11 student, claimed that the victim provoked him first by punching him, which resulted in a struggle involving a knife.
The suspect managed to grab the weapon and allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest, causing his death, Cayao said.
The suspect was reportedly with a friend, while the victim was with several companions, he added.
The suspect surrendered to Barangay Captain Noli Villarosa hours after the incident.
He was brought to the Bacolod City Police Office and later turned over to the custody of Police Station 8.
Cayao said the suspect claimed self-defense, adding, “Daw suya-ay sang duwa ka grupo.”
In a radio interview, the suspect apologized for the incident, saying it was unintentional.
