BACOLOD CITY — A 19-year-old man was detained for the first time after police seized 320 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP 2,176,000 in a drug bust in Purok Tahong, Barangay 2, on Sunday.
The operation, led by the City Drug Enforcement Unit, resulted in the arrest of the suspect, identified only as alias Nash, after two weeks of monitoring.
Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant CDEU head, said the suspect was classified as a high-value individual and allegedly started engaging in the illegal drug trade last year.
Legada said Nash had reportedly been earning PHP 1,000 for every five grams of shabu sold.
He added that selling illegal drugs was allegedly the suspect’s way of earning a living because he could not find a job.
In a statement, Police Col. Eugene Rebadomia, director of the Bacolod City Police Office, commended the operating team and reaffirmed the city police force’s commitment to intensifying its campaign against illegal drugs to help ensure a safer and drug-free city.
The operation followed the confiscation of PHP 1,360,000 worth of suspected shabu from a 26-year-old woman in the same village on May 27.
Police said the woman was allegedly trying to support her three daughters.
The suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
