Two 17-year-old boys figured in a stabbing incident early morning on October 20 in City Proper, Iloilo City, leaving one dead.
Police identified the fatality as alias Vincent, a Grade 10 student from Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo district.
The suspect, identified only as alias Adrian, is an out-of-school youth from Barangay Rizal Ibarra, City Proper.
According to police reports, a 16-year-old girl, identified as alias Nene and a resident of Barangay Calumpang, Molo, was the link between the two teenagers.
Vincent was Nene’s former boyfriend, while Adrian is her current partner.
The incident occurred in Barangay Rizal-Estanzuela, City Proper, where both the victim and the suspect attended a birthday party of a common friend. At around 3 a.m. Monday, a commotion erupted between the two.
The altercation reportedly began when Vincent saw Nene and Adrian together on a motorcycle.
“Maybe, he got jealous,” said Captain Michael Tuburan, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 7.
Nene and Vincent had been together for two months before breaking up. She and Adrian had been dating for only several days.
Reports said Vincent approached the suspect, and a confrontation ensued. The argument quickly turned physical. Moments later, Vincent collapsed to the ground.
Witnesses said blood was dripping from his body. It was later confirmed that the fistfight escalated when Adrian stabbed Vincent three times.
Vincent suffered two stab wounds to the chest and one to the back. He was rushed to Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital but was declared dead an hour later.
Meanwhile, Adrian fled the scene but surrendered at Barangay Rizal Ibarra, City Proper, around 7 a.m.
He is now in the custody of the Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office at Balay Dalayunan in La Paz, Iloilo City.
