BACOLOD City A male teenager died after he was allegedly sideswiped by a panel van at Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, Negros Occidental on May 2, 2019.
Police Captain Reynaldo Severino, Bago City deputy police chief, said the 16-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, was about to cross the street when he was hit by the speeding vehicle driven by Raulito Vicera, 44, of Barangay Villamonte of this city.
Severino said the van driver was on his way to southern Negros to deliver some pastries when the accident happened past 12 p.m. Thursday.
Severino said the driver tried to warn and avoid the victim but the latter did not see the vehicle as his vision was covered by an umbrella.
The victim succumbed to head injuries at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Severino said Vicera was released from detention Friday morning as no criminal charges were filed against him within the 18-hour reglementary detention period.
