BACOLOD City – A 19-year-old boy sustained minor injuries while escaping from a fire which destroyed five houses and damaged three others at Yunque-Mabini Street in Barangay III Poblacion, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental early Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, said the male teenager got injured after he was hit by melted plastics while he was getting out from a burning house. He was given first aid by rescuers.
Legaspi said the fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. from the bedroom of Ester Emilia Lapuri located at the second floor of their house. She was not there when it happened,” he added.
The blaze immediately spread to seven other neighboring houses made of light materials owned by Ricky Terry, Flor Sebullen, George Tabordo, Rogelio Araza, Andrea Ello, Jenelyn Sandoval, and Andrea Tabordo.
The fire was quelled around 2:10 a.m., after gobbling an estimated P35,000 in properties.
Legaspi said they have yet to determine the cause of fire but he claimed it could be electrical in nature.
