BACOLOD City – A male teenager was found dead inside the custodial facility of Pulupandan Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Maj. Anthony Grande, town police chief, said the 19-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, reportedly hanged himself using his t-shirt 20 minutes after the routine check of the desk officer, who also served as jailer.
Grande said the victim was found near the comfort room around 12:30 p.m.
“Abi nila maligo siya kay nag uba siya t-shirt, pero nagsaka siya guro sa toilet bowl kag amo to natabo,” he added.
The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital on board the police car, but he was declared dead upon arrival, the town police chief said.
The victim was the only detainee at the facility when the incident happened.
He was arrested at his relative’s house in San Enrique, Iloilo province on September 3, via an arrest warrant for homicide, Grande said.
Then he was transferred in Pulupandan town, where the crime was committed when he was still 15 years old.
Grande said the Provincial Internal Affairs Services (PIAS) is conducting an investigation to determine if there was foul play or if there was a liability on the part of the duty personnel.
