ILOILO CITY — A 15-year-old boy was found dead along a roadside in Barangay Balud Lilo-an, Zarraga, Iloilo, around 6:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.
Police identified the teenager only as “Nico,” a resident of Barangay Talauguis, Zarraga.
Apart from scratches on his left middle finger and left knee, police found no obvious external injuries that could explain his death.
Police Maj. Beberly Cataluña, the Zarraga police chief, said investigators could not yet determine whether the teenager died of natural causes or whether foul play was involved.
Police said Nico was last seen alive around 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30.
Nico was a Grade 8 student at Don Benjamin Jalandoni Sr. National High School in Barangay Libongcogon, Zarraga.
Before his death, Nico spent time with friends at a computer shop in Barangay Balud Lilo-an.
Police said he later headed home alone because he was the only member of the group who lived in Barangay Talauguis.
His friends learned Monday morning that he had not reached home.
Cataluña said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the teenager’s cause of death.
