An 18-year-old boy died from drowning late afternoon of May 6, 2020 in Tigbauan, Iloilo.
The body of John Anthony Dilig, a resident of Barangay Baguingin, Tigbauan, was recovered around 7 a.m. Thursday some 100 meters from where he drowned at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police Major Rolando Araño, Tigbauan police chief, said the victim and his two friends, who are both minors, went for a dip in the sea.
It is believed that Diligs suffered from leg cramps while swimming some 300 meters from the shoreline.
His two friends tried to rescue him, but the strong water current forced them to swim back to the shore.
They then asked for help from neighbors.
A rescue operation was launched to save Dilig.
Members of the Philippine Coast Guard-Tigbauan District and Tigbauan Bantay Dagat retrieved Dilig’s body after several hours of searching.
