A 16-year-old boy drowned in a fishpond in Dumangas, Iloilo.
The body of Vincent, a resident of Barangay Bacay, Dumangas, was found around 7:50 a.m. on Feb. 11 in a fishpond his family had been tending.
His father, Jonathan, discovered the teenager’s body submerged near the fishpond’s water control gate.
According to reports, Vincent and Jonathan had a drinking session on Monday evening. Around 7 p.m., Jonathan went home on his e-trike.
Master Sgt. Jay Dugayo, a Dumangas police investigator, said Jonathan had instructed Vincent to check the fishpond’s water level.
When Jonathan returned around 10 p.m., he could no longer find his son.
With the help of his younger son, Jonathan searched the property but was unable to locate Vincent. Several hours later, he found his son’s body.
Authorities believe the teenager may have been dead for hours before being discovered. It is suspected that Vincent slipped, lost consciousness, and drowned.
Meanwhile, Dugayo said the family has agreed to have the body undergo an autopsy.
