BACOLOD CITY – A 19-year-old laborer was found dead on Sunday, hours after being gored by a carabao in Sitio Sapa, Hacienda Casal-agan Dako, Barangay DSB, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
The victim, identified only as “Rensky,” left home around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday to feed their carabao in a vacant rice field.
When he failed to return that night, his family and relatives began searching for him.
Police Capt. Darryl Kuhutan, Pontevedra police chief, said the family found the victim in the rice field with multiple injuries around 12:14 a.m. on Sunday.
He was taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Kuhutan said a male carabao was seen roaming nearby with a detached rope and bloodstains on its horns, left ear, and nose.
However, it was not the victim’s carabao.
Authorities are investigating whether negligence played a role, as this was the first reported incident involving the animal.
The victim’s family and the carabao’s owner are scheduled to meet.
Since there were no witnesses, it remains unclear what triggered the carabao’s aggression.
