BACOLOD CITY — A heated altercation led to the death of a 22-year-old man after he was allegedly mauled by his teenage neighbor in Sitio Agtatahor II, Barangay Macasilao, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Sunday.
Police identified the victim only as Ed and the 19-year-old suspect as Boy.
Police reported that the victim and the suspect were having a drinking session at a riverbank that night.
While on their way home, a heated argument ensued between them and escalated into a fistfight.
The suspect then allegedly took a wooden stick embedded with nails and repeatedly struck the victim on the head, causing multiple injuries.
Police Capt. Jesus Alba, chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station, said in a radio interview that the victim and the suspect would usually argue whenever they were intoxicated.
The incident was reported to authorities by the village chief.
The suspect fled but was later arrested by police.
Police are preparing the filing of appropriate charges against the suspect.
