Technician charged over gun, drugs in Roxas

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A cellphone technician was charged Thursday, June 11, for illegal possession of a firearm and illegal drugs following his arrest in a buy-bust operation Monday afternoon, June 8, in Barangay Tanque here.
Police identified the suspect as Christian Anthony Diaz, 43, a resident of Barangay Tanque.
Charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, were filed against Diaz before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police recovered from the suspect a .38-caliber revolver, two live rounds of ammunition for the same caliber, two sachets of suspected shabu weighing 2 grams with an estimated street value of PHP 20,400, and PHP 3,000 in buy-bust money.
The suspect is under the custody of the Roxas City Police Station for proper disposition.
Police records showed that the suspect was allegedly involved in a series of robbery incidents in the city involving fighting cocks and pets.
Police said they conducted a monthlong surveillance and monitoring operation before the suspect’s arrest.
