Teacher’s Facebook threat prompts Dumangas class suspension

DUMANGAS, Iloilo — An alarming Facebook post by a teacher prompted Dumangas National High School in Barangay Ilaya 1st to suspend classes Wednesday morning, Aug. 5.
Classes had not yet begun when the suspension was announced, but several students had already arrived at the school.
According to reports, the school principal told police that he had received a message through Messenger about a post allegedly made by one of the school’s teachers.
The message included a screenshot from the personal Facebook account of a teacher identified only as Rocky, a department head in technology and livelihood education.
The post read: “Malakas na Lindol Ang daratin! Yayanig Ang mundong ito sa aking Galit!!!, Sa buwang ito may Patay sana na guro sa Dumangas National Highschool! Principal, assistant principal o Guro mismo!! Mark my words!”
(A powerful earthquake is coming! This world will shake because of my anger! This month, I hope a teacher at Dumangas National High School dies — the principal, assistant principal, or a teacher! Mark my words!)
The technology and livelihood education department head informed the school principal about the post.
After receiving the report, the principal coordinated with the Schools Division Office.
Police Maj. Kenn Albert Lepsia, Dumangas police chief, confirmed that no formal complaint had been filed against the teacher.
Lepsia said the post did not appear to contain a threat directed at students.
According to reports, the teacher admitted that his account had not been hacked and described the incident as a case of “drunk-posting.”
“He was allegedly intoxicated and just wanted to express his emotions. It was like his outlet,” Lepsia said.
Information received by authorities indicated that the teacher had a conflict with the assistant principal.
Lepsia said he had yet to obtain details about the alleged misunderstanding.
Police took no action against the teacher after the principal said the school would first address the matter internally through its grievance committee.
The teacher will be asked to explain the post.
Classes are expected to resume Thursday, Aug. 6.
