ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 47-year-old teacher from Mambusao, Capiz who was positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) died Sunday afternoon.
Mambusao Mayor Leodegario Jun Labao Jr. confirmed in an official statement that the teacher was immediately buried in the town cemetery as advised by the doctors.
The lady teacher died at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH).
According to Punong Barangay Celso Lajo of Atiplo, the patient may have contracted the virus when she bought school supplies in Roxas City.
The teacher has three female children and one of them was also positive for the virus.
Lajo advised the co-teachers of the patient to undergo self-quarantine.
The family and other close contacts of the patient are also under strict home quarantine and were subjected to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.
Labao reminded Mambusao residents to observe health protocols such as wearing of face masks and face shields, physical distancing and handwashing to avoid contracting and spreading the disease.
5 NEW CASES IN CITY
Meanwhile, five more COVID-19 cases were added to Roxas City.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas has confirmed the information in an official statement on Monday, saying that two of the five new cases died.
The new cases were:
Case No. 94: a 27-year-old male of Arnaldo Blvd., Roxas City and a health worker from Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH);
Case No. 95: an 85-year-old female from President Roxas Capiz, but temporarily residing at the house her son in Fuentes Subdivision, Brgy. Baybay;
Case No. 96: a 22-year-old female from Brgy. Baybay here who is under quarantine at Hortus Botanicus;
Case No. 97: a 70-year-old female from Luna Novicio Street. She died and was cremated on September 3. The family underwent strict home quarantine and tests after she died; and
Case No. 98: a 50-year-old male from Brgy. Tanque, Roxas City. He was admitted to RMPH on September 2 but died on September 3 and was immediately buried.
At present, Capiz has 220 COVID-19 cases with 69 active cases and 11 deaths.
