BACOLOD CITY — Two people, including a teacher, were killed after their motorcycles collided at Crossing Biaren in Barangay Manalad, Ilog, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
Police identified the fatalities as Vincent Toledo, 26, of Barangay Yao-Yao, Cauayan, a teacher and Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and a 29-year-old man identified only as Jon, of Barangay 1, Ilog.
The Sangguniang Kabataan is the barangay-based youth council.
An investigation showed that Jon allegedly encroached on the opposite lane while trying to overtake an unidentified vehicle, leading to a head-on collision.
Both riders sustained head injuries, police said.
Toledo was declared dead at a hospital, while Jon died later, according to Police Maj. Randy Babor, chief of the Ilog Municipal Police Station.
Kabankalan Catholic College Inc. mourned the death of Toledo, whom it described as a dedicated educator, mentor, and friend.
“Sir Vincent touched countless lives through his commitment to teaching, his compassion for others, and his unwavering service to the KCC family,” the school said in a Facebook post.
His wisdom, kindness, and positive influence will forever remain in the hearts of his students, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him, it added.
Meanwhile, Barangay Yao-Yao also grieved Toledo’s death.
“Chairman Vincent was more than a leader. He was a friend, a mentor, a teacher, and a source of hope for many young people. His passion for service and his love for the youth of Yao-Yao will never be forgotten,” the village said on Facebook.
The entire Barangay Yao-Yao expressed solidarity with the family in prayer and remembrance.
“As we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we also celebrate lives that were lived with purpose, service, and love,” the barangay said.
The barangay thanked Toledo for his sacrifices, service, kindness, and memories shared with the community.
“Your journey on earth may have ended, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of the people,” it said.
