ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A public school teacher was shot dead by an unidentified suspect Wednesday evening, April 15, in Sitio Burwang, Barangay Linambasan, Jamindan, Capiz.
Police identified the victim as Jo-anne Tagaro Medianero, 44, a widow and resident of the area.
An investigation by the Jamindan Municipal Police Station found that the victim was sitting on a sofa in their garage with her friend, Noelyn Fernando Visto, when an unidentified lone suspect wearing a bonnet arrived at about 7:45 p.m.
Without saying a word, the suspect allegedly shot Medianero five times using an undetermined caliber of firearm.
Personnel from the Jamindan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victim to Mambusao District Hospital in Mambusao town.
The attending physician declared her dead on arrival due to fatal gunshot wounds.
The suspect fled after the shooting and remains the subject of a police manhunt.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
The victim was a teacher at Igang Elementary School in the same barangay.
Fatal shootings in rural communities often pose added challenges to investigators because of limited witnesses and the suspect’s ability to flee quickly after the attack.
When the victim opened the door, the suspect allegedly stabbed him several times, hitting him in the chest, left hand and right shoulder.
The victim shouted for help and was taken to Tapaz District Hospital.
The attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
The suspect fled in an unknown direction after the incident.
Police are investigating to determine the motive for the killing.
Investigators in stabbing cases typically examine prior disputes, personal relationships and possible eyewitness accounts to establish motive and build a case.
