A former barangay tanod (watchman) was arrested in Bukidnon province eight years after allegedly killing another tanod in a gun attack.
Bryan Belgira, 38, was cornered at his temporary residence at Purok 5, Barangay Paitan, Quezon, Bukidnon around 3 p.m. on April 25.
Members of Bingawan Municipal Police Station, together with the local police from Quezon town, apprehended Belgira by virtue of an arrest warrant for murder in Criminal Case No. 15-76380.
Judge Marie Yvette Go of the Regional Trial Court Branch 37 in Iloilo City issued the arrest warrant on Sept. 18, 2015.
No bail bond was recommended for his temporary freedom.
Lieutenant Ryan Christ Inot, Bingawan police chief, said Belgira is Bingawan’s topmost wanted person.
He was charged for killing Ramy Dagum, 40, of Barangay Ngingi-an, Bingawan Iloilo, on March 30, 2015.
Belgira allegedly came in the defense of their village chief after Dagum, who was drunk, shouted at the official.
He left Iloilo for Bukidnon and worked at the farm of his employer, a businessman from Badiangan town.
Belgira’s whereabouts were known after his employer’s relative unintentionally revealed his kin’s present address.
The suspect has yet to be transported to Iloilo.
