A barangay tanod was stabbed while on duty evening of April 13, 2021 in Calinog, Iloilo.
Pascualing Canja, 54, a resident of Barangay Supanga, a hinterland village more than 20 kilometers from Calinog town proper, succumbed to an injury near his left armpit.
Lieutenant Jorge Lenantud, Calinog deputy police chief, said the incident happened at around 8:00 in the evening of Tuesday. The victim was brought at the Calinog District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival around 11:00 p.m.
Lenantud said they have an eyewitness to the incident.
The witness said the victim was on his way to Sitio Impogotan when a lone suspect waylaid him.
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Angelo Jose, also a resident of the said place.
Jose stabbed the victim once before he fled. He remains at large as of this writing.
Lennatud said they are still investigating what drove the young suspect to kill Canja.
