Tanod, SK chairman nabbed for illegal cockfight

Nine persons, including a barangay tanod and a Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson, were arrested for illegal cockfighting afternoon of Dec 4, 2022 in San Miguel, Iloilo.

Police identified the suspects as barangay tanod Marcelo Sabido, 39; SK chairperson Raven Salvana, 25; Cezar Ian Sandig, 36; Joel Arcenas, 55; and Wilson Saba, 47, all residents of Barangay 9, San Miguel, the area where the operation was conducted.

Police also nabbed Russ Reynold Braga, 32, of Barangay Cordova, Tigbauan, Iloilo; Ryan John Cabanalan, 35, of Barangay 2, Sto Rosario, Street, San Miguel; Juan Salvoza y Senosa, 43 years old, married, a resident of Brgy 8, San Miguel, Iloilo, and Larry Abitan, 60, of Barangay 1, Roxas Street, San Miguel.

Members of San Miguel Police Station and 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company caught the suspects in a “pauwak” around 1:10 p.m. Sunday.

Recovered from their possession were 15 heads of fighting cocks, P9,940, weighing scale, woven bags, cartons, chicken cage c syringe, and improved ring.

The suspects are now detained and will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974).
