BACOLOD CITY — Talisay City Mayor Rowena “Weng” Lizares has ordered the local police to investigate the discovery of two decomposing bodies in Barangay Dos Hermanas, just weeks after similar incidents were reported in the city.
“It is with deep concern that I address the recent discovery of two unidentified dead bodies in our community,” Lizares said, assuring full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
Police Lt. Ramon Juablar, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said the bodies were found in a grassy, vacant area within a private property in a remote part of the barangay.
The discovery was reported by a 45-year-old woman who had been alerted by children who stumbled upon the scene.
According to police, one victim was wearing a black shirt and denim shorts, while the other wore only denim shorts.
Juablar said parts of the property are accessible despite it being private, which enabled the children to find the bodies.
He added that the investigation has been hampered by the lack of witnesses and the unknown identities of the victims.
He also said the CCTV footage obtained from the area shows only one direction, which is far from where the bodies were found.
“It can be considered alarming because we have a new case, just weeks after the last case that we had,” Juablar said.
He noted that they could not yet establish a connection between this case and previous incidents until the victims are identified and their backgrounds are known.
In response to the discovery, Juablar said police have intensified checkpoint operations and increased visibility to prevent similar incidents.
As of 5 p.m. on August 30, the victims remained unidentified.
This marks the third such incident in a month, with a total of five bodies found in separate cases—two in Barangay Concepcion, one in Barangay Matab-ang on August 11, and now two in Barangay Dos Hermanas, which is far from the earlier locations.
The two bodies found in Barangay Concepcion have been identified, and while the investigation is ongoing, police have not ruled out possible drug-related motives based on the victims’ backgrounds.
Mayor Lizares assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain safety in the city.
“Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Talisay PNP if you need assistance or support,” she said.
She emphasized that public safety remains the city government’s top priority.
“Thank you for your understanding as we work together to navigate this challenging situation,” Lizares added.
