The court works on evidences, facts, and legal proof. It doesn’t listen to presumptions, assumptions, and hearsay.
In the case of slain businesswoman Claire Diergos, police investigators would rather err on the side of caution than be swayed by public clamor and hastily file a weak case.
Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, made the assertion Monday as he confirmed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) Diergos might not be able to file a case against the suspect/s this week.
“Yes, we understand the sentiments of the public but we also need to bring in vital pieces of evidences to support our case,” Gorero said.
Gorero said the PNP Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU)-6 and the Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO)-6’s Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team have to submit results of the examinations they conducted.
He cited that RACU-6 needs around 15 to days to conduct and submit the results of their investigation that would form part of the evidence that would be submitted in the filing of the case.
The scientific and technical evidence should be strong enough to stand in court since the SIT has no direct witness during the actual killing.
What the SIT has are circumstantial and corroborative pieces of evidence.
Gorero also urged persons who claimed to have knowledge of the case to come out and help the slain businesswoman and her family get justice.
Earlier, the SIT, through its spokesperson Senior Master Sergeant Francisco Lindero, reiterated that Diergos’s family is constantly briefed on the case.
“If the family of Claire Diergos is willing to wait, I believed that everyone should have the same disposition,” said.
Lindero said it’s not a question of how long would it take “but how sure we are with the ending.”
