BACOLOD City – Soroptimist International (SI) of Bacolod has adopted Barangay Taculing.
The adoption was formalized during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by SI Bacolod president Ma. Rosario Sola and Barangay Captain Lady Gles Pallen along with Joy Valdez and Em Ang recently.
Witnessing the signing are officers of SI Bacolod and teacher and parents of Soroptimist Child Development Center in Brgy. Taculing. The activity is part of the Soroptimist Week celebration.
The Adopt-A-Barangay program provides a focal point for projects of Soroptimist clubs in the Philippines.
Established in 1981, this project has contributed to the impetus for Soroptimist growth in the Philippines through service to women and girls in the barangay, the smallest unit of government in the country.
A sound working relationship with local officials and barangay women fosters cooperation, facilitates logistic arrangements and ensures the success of projects benefitting women and girls in the community.
Particular attention will be given to environmental protection and solid waste management, women’s health and family spacing and livelihood projects at the barangay level.
Sola said SI Bacolod intends to bring these programs and services to the Adopted Barangay for the benefit of its indigent residents particularly the women and girls in the locality.
“Our adopted barangay is expected to cooperate, support, and assist us in our programs and services in order that the intended beneficiaries will avail of them. We will help each other in identifying problem areas and providing assistance to each other to ensure the successful completion of its projects,” Sola added.
