BACOLOD CITY – A 30-year-old woman was injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) she was riding in with her former partner crashed into a barrier in front of the San Sebastian Cathedral early Friday morning.
Police Maj. Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), said the ex-couple was reportedly arguing when the woman suddenly grabbed the steering wheel.
The vehicle swerved into a gutter and struck the barrier at around 2:30 a.m.
The male driver, 30, was unharmed.
His female companion sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Bonilla said the crash happened just minutes after a person who had been sleeping along the roadside near the cathedral moved to another spot.
No other injuries or structural damage were reported.
Bonilla added that the SUV was totally wrecked, and authorities are awaiting word from the vehicle owner regarding repairs to the damaged barrier and pavement.
