Suspect in ilonggo ofw’s slay nabbed in pampanga

Authorities arrested the suspect in the killing of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Cabatuan, Iloilo whose body was found in South Korea a year ago.

Members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) International Operations Division nabbed Yoguslav Magtoto on April 3, 2019 in Candaba, Pampanga.

Magtoto was charged for murder in the killing of Michael Angelo Claveria, 34, a native of Cabatuan, Iloilo.

Magtoto was arrested by virtue of a provisional warrant of arrest requested by the South Korean police from the Manila Regional Trial Court.

The Interpol issued a Red Notice against the suspect after authorities learned that he was the suspect in Claveria’s death.

A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

Magtoto, who returned to the country in 2016, might be brought back to South Korea soon to face the murder charge against him.

South Korean police zeroed in on Magtoto after it was learned that was allegedly the last person seen with the victim.

Authorities learned that the suspect developed a romantic liking for Claveria but the latter allegedly rejected him.

Claveria left to work as a metal cutter in a factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea in July 2014.

His family claimed he last contacted them on Christmas Eve of 2014.

He was reported missing in 2015.

They heard nothing from him until a report came out about human bones found inside a water purifier facility in South Korea.

The lead pointed to Claveria after the clothes found in the purifier was similar to the shirt worn by the victim in one of his pictures.

DNA sample was taken from his mother Angelita for testing. The Korean authorities later confirmed that her DNA sample matched with that of the remains found in Korea.

Claveria’s body was repatriated on May 27, 2018.
